The Basics I: Subject Pronouns in French

Subject Pronouns are the "identifiers" in a sentence. They represent the person doing the action and they are followed by a verb.  I eat.  "I" am the subject.  She eats. "She" is the subject. In English, the subject pronouns are:  

First  person (I, we)
Second person (you, you all)
Third person (he, she it,  they)

 

In French, subject pronouns, (as pictured to your right) are

Je/J (I)

Tu (you)

il (he, it)

elle (she, it)

Nous (we)

Vous (you formal, polite plural, you plural)

ils (they -males or group of males+females)

elles (they-females)

Conjugated verb forms are always preceeded by a noun or subject pronoun in French
